An extensive network of walking trails has been developed through a town to showcase its rich military heritage.

Mayor of Cork County, Cllr Noel O’Connor will launch the Ballincollig Gunpowder Trails in the town’s Regional Park next weekend.

The Royal Gunpowder Mills operated across a vast 2.5km stretch on the south banks of the River Lee in Ballincollig from 1794 to 1903. At the height of its operation in the 19th century, it was the second biggest gunpowder works in Britain and Ireland.
