How much would it cost to replace an Irish Mammy?

Irish Mammies are a force to be reckoned with. Between teaching us to fear the dreaded wooden spoon and curing every disease known to man with flat 7Up we reckon she's some woman. Today we learned how much it would cost to replace her - and it's not cheap!

Irish Life surveyed parents with children under 18 and revealed that it would cost €37,500 annually to replace a stay-at-home mum.

Not only is she underpaid, she's also underappreciated. Irish dads think mums spend 51 hours doing chores every week - but it's actually 93 hours.

After all those hours slaving away, just half of mums feel that their partners and children appreciate the work they do.

So how does mum spend her 93 hours of chores?

- Childcare: 36 hours

- Cooking 10.5 hours

- Cleaning/hoovering: 10.5 hours

- Other household tasks: 7.5 hours

- School runs/driving: 7.5 hours

- Washing and ironing clothes: 7.5 hours

- Washing up: 4.5 hours

- Groceries: 4.5 hours

- Helping with homework: 2.5 hours

- Gardening: 2 hours

It's amazing that between cooking, cleaning, driving, gardening and minding the family that mum can find 10 hours to spend alone with her partner and has just 14 hours left to enjoy some downtime herself.

In contrast, Irish dads spend 55 hours on household duties each week - and they think mum only spends 51 hours doing the same. However, mums think their partners only do 29 hours of work at home.

Dad's managed to get 22 hours of free time, almost double what mums get. Dads think they spend 14 hours with their partner - four more than they actually do.

How much would it cost to hire someone to do mum and dad's chores? €330,000 for mum and €225,000 for dad.

In light of this new information that Mother's Day gift doesn't seem so expensive anymore!
