Crystal Swing Livin’ La Vida Loca as latest online adventure racks up views
This time, Mary Murray Burke and her children, Dervla, 21, and Derek, 22, have gone for a James Bond-style introduction for their cover version of Ricky Martin’s ‘Livin’ La Vida Loca’.
Their last video, ‘Happy Days’, racked up more than 300,000 hits on YouTube.
However, their greatest hit is still ‘He Drinks Tequila’ from 2010, which recorded almost 1m views and caught the eye of US chat show host Ellen de Generes, who brought the east Cork family onto her TV show.
The latest production sees them as celebrities at a function where Mary hooks up with a middle-aged man. However, it soon becomes clear this isn’t just a love song and the Burke family are planning to rob Mary’s unsuspecting victim.
Mary says her son and daughter don’t get embarrassed by the sexy persona she deploys for the family’s trademark videos.
“They laugh. They love having me around,” says Mary. “We work as a team and that’s what makes us unique. We’re like the Holy Trinity, you can’t get one without the other.”
Mary says Crystal Swing is still going from strength to strength and are sent hundreds of songs from aspiring songwriters from Ireland, Britain, and even Germany.
“Songs come in by email and in the post but often we find that a cover works best with our videos,” she says. “We love doing the videos and coming up with the concept.
“All the extras are friends of ours including my love interest Norman Morrissey, who comes from the well-known musical family, the Morrisseys,” she says.
The family play all over Ireland, Portugal, and the UK later this year.
