Man who raped child at funfair is named

The man who raped a 12-year-old girl at a funfair almost 25 years ago can now be named as 51-year-old Gerard Williams.

Williams, with an address at 10 Churchfield Terrace East, Churchfield, Cork, was jailed for four years last week. Mr Justice Paul Carney imposed a six-year jail sentence on the rapist with the last two years of the sentence suspended.

He referred to the inherent gravity of the offence and the aggravating factor that the victim was only 12 years old.
