Man charged with having false ID

A man has been charged with having false identification after he was arrested in Portlaoise by gardaí looking for a teenage girl who went missing from England last Wednesday.

Man charged with having false ID

Pitulan Anghel, aged 28, was arrested at Flat 9, Portlaoise Rd, Mount Rath, on Saturday night.

When Mr Anghel was confronted he produced identification claiming he was Reitan Muntean.

However, gardaí told a special sitting of Portlaoise District Court that it was apparent he was not the person on the ID and that another driver’s licence was found at the premises with his real name.

He was remanded in custody at Clover Hill until Thursday.

Following his arrest gardaí called off a public appeal for missing 15-year-old Netradica Anghel.

She was discovered at the flat and taken into the care of social services.

Gardaí said she was “safe and well”.

Police in south Yorkshire had appealed for help after the teenager’s family reported her missing from her home in Rotherham last Wednesday.

There were reports of her boarding a ferry at Cairn Ryan, Scotland, with Mr Anghel and driving south in his Mercedes car.

She was originally from Romania but speaks both English and Roma.

During their appeals the South Yorkshire Police said they were concerned for her well being.
