Sacked worker awarded €35,000

An accountant who was unfairly dismissed from his job with the Irish Coursing Club has been awarded compensation of €35,000.

Edmond O’Brien, 50, of Rosscon, Newmarket, Co Cork, took a case against the ICC to the Employment Appeals Tribunal and a judgment issued yesterday ruled in his favour.

The tribunal found that, although Mr O’Brien as an accountant contributed to his own dismissal, the “initial investigation” into his conduct was “not as independent as it should have been”.
