A young, traditional musician who took up the accordion after his famous grandfather died 10 years ago is already making a name for himself.

Bryan O’Leary, 20, is the winner of the TG4 Gradam Ceoil Young Musician of the Year Award and is also being feted in his native Sliabh Luachra region which straddles the Cork/Kerry border.

He was inspired to learn music following the passing of his famed grandfather Johnny O’Leary — one of the country’s best-known box-players, in 2004. Johnny had received a Gradam Saol Life-time Achievement Award in 2003.
