Pupils plate up for proper food portions and a healthy future

Plating food has taken on a new meaning for some schoolchildren who are learning about healthier eating. A group of parents in Dublin have been promoting a ‘Portion Plate,’ which helps children learn about portion sizes and the components of a healthy, balanced meal.

Pupils plate up for proper food portions and a healthy future

The parents from Terenure got more than 2,000 children in the area to make paper portion plates that are being displayed in local shop windows this week.

The initiative is being supported by the Irish Heart Foundation and, Prof Donal O’Shea, consultant endocrinologist and director of the Weight Management Clinic at St Columcille’s Hospital in Loughlinstown, Co Dublin.
