Health Minister James Reilly has said that the current health system is “unfair and inefficient” and has left Ireland with one of the highest priced, most expensive systems in the developed world.

Speaking at the Fine Gael’s Árd Fheis last night, the party’s deputy leader outlined proposed reforms on health insurance he said would be published in weeks.

Dr Reilly said the health insurance reforms would not begin for another five years, but the current system was flawed. “Our current two-tier health system is unfair, inefficient, and tragically, does not guarantee to all that a safe service will always be provided.
