Daniel takes break after Majella’s surgery

He promised he won’t be retiring, just taking a sabbatical to travel with Majella, 53.
As Majella continued her recovery in hospital, Daniel, 52, told fans his last series of concerts for some time will be his shows on a Caribbean cruise liner next February.
Daniel, who has just performed in Hamilton, New Zealand, and is about to proceed to Australia, said: “I can’t really say how long the break will be, but there will be no shows until at least the middle of 2016.
“For me, this was a very big decision but there are a number of things that Majella and I want to do and even if we live to be 90 (which I hope we do), I don’t want to have to say, ‘I wish we took the time to do such and such......’
“I would like to thank you at this point also for supporting my career over the last 30 years and I hope when we get back to doing shows that I will see all of you again.”
He said between now and next February he will be travelling and performing in most places he has sung in over the past 30 years.
He said: “I want to stress that this is not retirement, it’s just a sabbatical.”
Daniel told fans he was aware they had seen Majella’s message of thanks and he is delighted she was doing so well: “I just want to add my thanks to you for your support since last July. It has meant a great deal to both Majella and myself.
“We thank God that her treatment and surgery has been successful.
“Through all of this we have a lot of time to reflect and take stock of things and it makes us realise that life is short.”
Daniel’s message followed one from Majella earlier this week when she wrote on his website from her hospital bed five days after her double mastectomy and reconstructive surgery that she is on the road to recovery.
She said she knows she has a long way to go but she is taking it one step at a time.
Majella raised an amazing €600,000 for the Irish Cancer Society when she had her hair shaved live on RTÉ’s Late Late Show last year.
