Larry Gogan gone to weekends in latest 2FM shake-up
News of the veteran DJ’s shift to the weekend had circulated in advance of what amounted to an official announcement by Ryan Tubridy on his own 2FM show yesterday.
Earlier this week, Tubridy had interviewed ex-Westlife member Nicky Byrne, who had revealed he would soon be taking over the 11am to 2pm slot — an overlap with Larry’s Golden Hour, currently broadcast from 1pm to 2pm, Monday to Friday.
Yesterday Tubridy said: “Larry is going to be leaving his show on daytime 2FM, that’s the sad news. It’s sad for a lot of us because we see Larry every day.
“Sometimes you get to see the milkman put the bottle on your doorstep and some people get to see the postman put the post through the door, but we get to see Larry putting his bag on his desk. It’s one of those privileges in life that you can meet someone that amazing.
“He’s kind and avuncular and that’s lovely every morning. But that’s not going to be the case for too much longer. Larry’s going to be doing a show at the weekend.”
He stressed that Gogan — who with Dave Fanning is just one of two original 2FM presenters still at the station — would be staying put.
Some hours after Tubridy’s announcement 2FM released a statement in which it said Gogan had signed a new contract and would now be “at the heart of weekends”.
The statement also said much-loved features of the Larry Gogan Show — such as the Golden Hour and the Just A Minute Quiz — would be retained.
Some famous, some apocryphal Just a Minute Quiz answers:
