Schools may lack capacity to assess students, Quinn told

Education Minister Ruairi Quinn was told by officials in 2011 that schools might not have capacity to take over assessing students in a replacement for the Junior Certificate.

His plans for the Junior Cycle Student Award, entirely marked by students’ own teachers, have led to a risk of industrial action by more than 25,000 second-level teachers.

Their unions oppose the level of change he set out in the Oct 2012 junior cycle framework and say their concerns are not being properly addressed.
