Teachers could go unpaid for not registering with council

Although they have until Jan 28 to register with the Teaching Council or face non-payment, the process can take several weeks if Garda vetting is needed or if qualifications or other information still have to be verified. A previous early November deadline was pushed back just days in advance by Education Minister Ruairi Quinn as hundreds of teachers had still not registered.

At the time, the Department of Education said there were 260 teachers awaiting decisions on their applications from the council. But another 110, two-thirds primary teachers and the rest working at second level, had still not applied for registration.
