Greg wants to feel the love with expert dating help
Leesider Greg O’Neill has become the latest candidate on RTÉ’s Today programme dating segment, with a matchmaker and daytime television audience on hand to help him find love.
The 37-year-old bar manager admitted that the start of a new year prompted him to look at settling down, having “enjoyed the single life too much” in recent years.
He has fallen under the wing of professional matchmaker Avril Mulcahy, the Today show resident dating expert, and he has already hit the streets of Cork on the lookout for love.
According to Avril, who has been a matchmaker for two years and who has an office in Dublin: “He is looking for love, he is genuine about this. I gave him a call about this and asked him if he was interested in going on TV and he said ‘why not?’ It took a lot of guts.”
Avril will now review the applications sent in to the show and arrive at a shortlist of three women, with the programme’s audience selecting Greg’s date.
Greg likened the process to “a blind date” and admitted that seeing his friends settling down had prompted him to focus less on work and more on domestic life.
“I was enjoying single life too much in the last few years and working. All my friends around me are getting married, having babies. It is the new year and I started thinking it might be time to settle down.”
said he was looking for someone “similar to myself”, in terms of appreciating the long and sometimes unsociable hours involved in running a pub, in Greg’s case the Commons Inn in Blackpool in Cork.
