Checks for damage to property urged

The warning came after two streets in one of Cork City’s busiest shopping precincts were closed overnight on public safety grounds after violent storm force winds loosened slates and gutters on several buildings on the Coal Quay, Castle St, and Liberty Street.
The fire service responded to reports of flying debris on Thursday night and after an initial inspection of the area, and following consultation with the gardaí, Castle St and Liberty St were closed.
