Priory Hall campaigner ‘grateful’ over €5k gesture

Priory Hall campaigner Stephanie Meehan yesterday praised the new owners of developer Tom McFeely’s Ballsbridge home after they donated their €5,000 cut of money found at the property to her and her family.

Ms Meehan was one of the residents who had to leave their apartments at the complex in north Dublin just over two years ago when fire chiefs labelled it a fire hazard.

In the course of a tumultuous year her partner, Fiachra Daly, took his own life five months ago last Monday, while more recently the Government announced a long-term solution for the Priory Hall residents that will allow them to move on with their lives.

In the midst of it all, €200,000 was found in a bath at Tom McFeely’s repossessed home and on Monday a court-appointed official asked the Dublin District Court to release €10,000 of the money to reward those who found it. The two workmen who made the discovery got €2,500 each, but the new owners of the house asked that Ms Meehan receive the remaining €5,000.

Yesterday she told Ryan Tubridy on 2FM that she said she had been “blown away” by the gesture to giver her the money, and said: “It keeps in line with the spirit of Christmas and I am just really, really thrilled and so grateful.”
