90,000 families in need of state housing, figures show

Nearly 90,000 vulnerable households are in need of state housing, with tens of thousands having to sleep in parents’ or friends’ homes while waiting for help to get a roof over their head.

Social housing figures issued yesterday show that only around 10% of empty residences held by Nama and offered for housing have been passed over for those in need of homes.

Housing Minister Jan O’Sullivan said it was unacceptable that so many people were in need of social housing, and that more resources would be assigned to getting people homes.
