Workers begin building Westlife star Egan's wall
Sean Waters, who runs a stone, block and fencing business at Maugherow, Co Sligo, started raising Kian’s outer boundary with quality stone at his home yesterday after An Bord Pleanála gave final planning clearance last week.
Mr Waters noted that Kian, 33, told his camp-mates on I’m A Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here that he had made enough cash with Westlife never to work again.
Mr Waters said: “I wish I knew that last week before I priced the job.”
Two Polish employees are erecting tons of stone on a job that will take two weeks.
It was quarried in Co Donegal by McMonagle Stone in Mountcharles, who have provided stone for parts of Buckingham Palace.
It’s replacing wooden fencing on top of stone when Kian and his wife, former Hollyoaks star, Jodie Albert, first erected the wall.
Mr Waters described the job as “very tasty work”. He explained: “The new stone has to match the stone already there and it will take about six months before the match shows.”
Kian got the final all-clear a week ago to add another 70 centimetres of stone to his front boundary at Strandhill, Co Sligo.
There were objections to the wooden fencing atop the original wall but they got the all-clear from An Bord Pleanála to replace the wood with stone so long as it didn’t rise higher than the existing pillars at the gate.
Before their altered design, the couple were told that the fence would detract from views to be preserved and would be “seriously injurious to the visual amenities of the area”. The couple say they love their locality. It allows Kian ready access to his other great love — surfing — at Strandhill.
