Lured into bedroom before rape, jury hears

A Carlow woman has told a jury that her uncle bribed her into his bedroom on the promise of a Walnut Whip or to listen to his Wombles record before he raped and sexually abused her.

The now 39-year-old told Caroline Biggs, prosecuting; “As far back as I can remember, my uncle sexually assaulted me and raped me, constantly, nearly every single day of my childhood.”

She said the man, her father’s brother, moved into their family home when he was about 13, after his own parents died. He stayed in a bedroom off the sitting room and she said the abuse, which allegedly took the form of oral rape, digital penetration, and rape, occurred in the sitting room and in his bedroom.
