A Cork nursing home, which closed earlier this year, has been sharply criticised by the Employment Appeals Tribunal for its bullying of a worker who was fired after allegedly stealing a mug.

The tribunal said Upton House Nursing Home in Innishannon had treated care assistant Ina Kiely dreadfully over the manner in which it maligned her character.

The tribunal awarded Ms Kiely €15,000 compensation after ruling she was unfairly sacked by the nursing home, adding that she had played no role in her dismissal.
