A full attendance was reported at training for about 70 principals yesterday despite a union ban on some attending the sessions.

However, the Association of Secondary Teachers Ireland industrial action is still closing schools this week as parent-teacher meetings, which members are banned from attending outside class hours, are moved into school time.

The Department of Education said attendance rates will not be collated until later this week for the first workshops for principals and deputy principals, ahead of the introduction next year of the first phase of the new junior cycle programme.
