A man who had great hopes as a soccer player in his teens and once got a trial with Glasgow Celtic, hit the bottle when it didn’t work out and yesterday ended up being jailed for six months.

Daniel O’Donovan, of 129 Mount Nebo Avenue, Gurranabraher, Cork, was jailed for causing extensive criminal damage to a car.

Garda Patrick Barry, who investigated the case, said at Cork District Court that O’Donovan would have been under the influence of alcohol at the time of the incident.
