The tourism sector received a boost yesterday with figures showing the number of overseas visitors and amount of money spent increased in the second quarter of this year.

The CSO yesterday issued its tourism and travel statistics for the period April to June. It also showed an increase in the number of overseas trips made by Irish people and an increase in the amount of money they spent.

The CSO figures showed that the number of overseas trips to Ireland by non-residents increased from 1.817m in the second quarter last year to 1.893m trips in the same period this year — up 4.2%.
