The former girlfriend of a Bank of Ireland official forced to hand over €7.6m during a tiger kidnapping has brought a High Court claim seeking damages for alleged negligence against the bank.

Stephanie Smith, aged 24, was in a relationship with Bank of Ireland employee Shane Travers. On Feb 26, 2006, he was forced, while armed masked robbers held her and two of her family hostage, to hand over the money taken from the bank’s premises at College Green in Dublin.

She claims she suffers from post-traumatic stress disorder and depression as a result of her ordeal.
