Garda issue fresh child abduction alert in Donegal

Gardaí in Co Donegal have issued a new child abduction alert after another sinister approach to children.

Last week gardaí issued an alert after two separate incidents on the same day in the Buncrana and Bridgend area. Two youngsters were approached by a man in either a silver or light blue car. In one of the incidents a youngster was offered sweets to get into the car.

Now gardaí in Letterkenny believe a similar approach was made in the Letterkenny area by a man in a similar car. Again a young child was offered sweets to get into a similar make of car.

It is understood the male driver of the car exposed himself on two occasions.

Garda Crime Prevention Officer Paul Wallace said they believe the incidents may be connected.

“The common thread in all three cases is that a similar car has been identified. The incident in Letterkenny only came to light when the reporting of the Inishowen incidents in Buncrana and Bridgend hit the media. We are asking people to be vigilant and to report any suspicious activity to gardaí.

“We would especially ask anyone who observes suspicious activity to take a note of licence plates. It may turn out to be completely innocent, but we must check out all reports,” he said.

He said he did not want to scare parents but asked that they remain vigilant.

CCTV recordings of various incidents is also being viewed by gardaí.
