Green Party leader Eamon Ryan has accused Enda Kenny of in the “worst form of populism” by trying to abolish the Seanad without public debate.

Mr Ryan also described as “shocking” the Taoiseach’s refusal to take part in a TV head-to-head debate with other political leaders ahead of next Thursday’s referendum.

“He single-handedly brought this referendum to the Irish people. It was an initiative purely on his own behalf,” said Mr Ryan.
