Kenny to manage Dáil clerk selection

Enda Kenny has been left in charge of deciding how to pick the new chief civil servant of the Dáil after the Ceann Comhairle said his name was “blackened” after being involved in the process.

TDs were left surprised in the chambers yesterday after Ceann Comhairle Sean Barrett openly claimed there had been attempts to “blacken” his name with leaks from the Oireachtas.

Clerk of the Dáil, Kieran Coughlan, retired earlier this year but was not replaced.
