Taoiseach Enda Kenny has revealed why he will not take part in a TV debate on Seanad abolition — because he does not want to “embarrass” his opponents.

Mr Kenny made the quip as he denied running scared from a live showdown with Fianna Fáil leader Micheál Martin.

Mr Martin said it was unacceptable that the Taoiseach would not discuss such a fundamental change to public life with those opposed to abolition of the upper house.
