A 71-year-old postmaster has spoken of the terrifying moment he was confronted by a hooded raider who pointed a gun at his head and demanded he hand over all his cash.

The raider burst into the post office in the quiet village of Banteer, Co Cork around 11.50am yesterday and confronted postmaster Tom Hartnett.

“I told him I couldn’t open the safe because it was on a time lock. He was abusive and threatening,” said Mr Harnet. “He stayed there for a minute and told me not to make any phonecall. Then he ran out of the door.
