A second meeting between the HSE and the Irish Medical Organisation over the imminent junior doctors strike has failed to agree what hospital contingency measures should be put in place to protect patients.

Management and union representatives met for two hours yesterday in a bid to iron out what will be needed to ensure cancer, oncology and emergency services keep running.

A junior doctors strike is pencilled in for Sept 25.
