Junior doctors are set to stage an all-out national strike on Sept 25 and repeat the move in targeted hospitals every week afterwards until their “dangerous” working conditions are resolved.

The move, which it is feared will cause hospital havoc for seriously ill patients across the country, was announced by the Irish Medical Organisation yesterday evening, in response to a landslide 97% vote in favour of industrial action.

After high-level meetings within the union, a spokes- man last night revealed the group is prepared to press the “nuclear button” to force the HSE to address chronic shift length problems.
