Opera House reveals new season line-up

Cork Opera House are making a splash with its autumn/winter line-up — a schedule jam-packed with music, dance, theatre, and comedy.

Opera House reveals new season line-up

Fresh from the successes of last year’s Sound of Music and this summer’s production Grease, Opera House chief executive Mary Hickson is hoping for a similarly positive reaction to the new schedule.

“We are so proud that both of those productions were made here in Cork,” she says. “We are taking another leap of faith with this programme in an effort to reach out even further to our audiences.”

The new season begins with Helen Mirren starring as Queen Elizabeth II in a screening of The Audience (Sept 1), while National Theatre Live also returns with two live screenings of Shakespeare’s Othello (Sept 26/27).

The Opera House will also host the world premiere of No Limbs No Limits (Oct 6), a documentary about the extraordinary life story of Cork teenager Joanne O’ Riordan, who was born without limbs.

Musical highlights include Billy Ocean (Sep 13), Jimmy MacCarthy (Oct 17), Niles Rogers and Chic (Nov 26), and Primal Scream (Nov 28).

With something for everyone, Ms Hickson is sure that the people of Cork will be happy with the line-up.

She said the autumn/winter season is one with “surprises, drama and magic at every turn”.
