Two charities to benefit from cycling fundraiser
The annual Clonakilty Charity Cycle — which last year raised over €36,000 for Cancer Connect— will be held on Saturday, Sep 14. The organisers are inviting entries from everyone, from experienced cyclists to those who “pedal around” occasionally.
To facilitate serious and fun cyclists, there are two routes. One is a 30-mile cycle and the other, for more experienced cyclists, is 60 miles.
Cancer Connect will again benefit from this year’s fundraiser along with CoAction. The charity offers a free, flexible and confidential transport service to Cork hospitals from West Cork for people receiving cancer treatments such as radiotherapy, chemotherapy and other treatments.
The transport service operates from Castletownbere through Bantry, Goleen and Skibbereen to various Cork hospitals every Monday to Friday and, at times, to suit patients.
Administered by West Cork Rural Transport, it is run by a dedicated team of volunteer drivers.
CoAction, meanwhile, provides a wide range of supports and services for children and adults across all ranges of ability.
With a headquarters in Bantry and other complexes in a number of West Cork towns, its focus is always person/family-centred when planning, designing and providing supports and programmes.
The organisation’s goal is to support everyone to live a full life as part of their community.
