Decades Festival brings night fever back to Cork

It’s time to dust down the white suit — if it still fits — and get in that Bee Gee’s ‘Night Fever’ groove.

Decades Festival brings night fever back to Cork

Folks who are beyond the first flush can relive their youth thanks to the return to Cork of the popular Decades Festival, which will take place on Friday and Saturday.

The festival will see the city boogie to the sounds of the ’70s, with more than 20 pubs spreading disco fever among their customers with live tribute bands and more.

The festival encourages participating outlets and customers to channel their inner grooviness and dress up in that decade’s attire to ensure the atmosphere will be far out.

Everything from the Bay City Rollers to Charlie’s Angels and Abba will be on the approved list of attire.

Festival sponsors Carlsberg will support the festival by giving out free ’70s accessories to those who buy a pint of Carlsberg in any of the participating outlets throughout the weekend.

The organisers have also revealed there will be a special prize for the best outfit, which will be independently judged, where the winner plus three friends will win a night out in Cork to the value of €1,000.

Michael Lyons, regional manager for Diageo, said: “We are delighted to again sponsor the Carlsberg Decades Festival.

“This event has proved to be fun and exciting in the past and I wish all the participating pubs best wishes for a successful weekend.”

Dave Walsh, chairman of the festival committee, said they are delighted to have the support of Diageo this year.

“And we look forward to building the festival again which was certainly missed from last year’s social calendar.

“I would also like to thank our media sponsors, the Evening Echo and Red FM, and look forward to working with them in the run up to and throughout the festival weekend.”
