The drugs — with an estimated street value of €100,00 — were recovered yesterday from a house near the Leesdale Estate area of Model Farm Rd by members of the Cork City Divisional Drugs Unit.

The raid on the house, which took place at about 4.30pm, was part of an ongoing operation targeting the sale and supply of controlled drugs in the City.

During the search, which involved the Garda Dog Unit, heroin with an estimated street value of up to €100,000 and cannabis herb and resin with an estimated value of up to €4,000 were found, along with drug paraphernalia and mobile phones.

A man in his late 20s was arrested at the scene and was last night detained at Mayfield Garda Station under Section 2 of the Criminal Justice Act 1996.

A senior Garda source said they believed they had cut off “a significant heroin supply route into the city”.
