Heavens above: Skies ablaze as Northern Lights return

The stunning Aurora Borealis has returned to the skies over Ireland with spectacular results.

Members of the Buncrana Camera Club in Co Donegal caught this image of the stunning light display commonly known as the Northern Lights.

The photo was taken at Dunree Head on the grounds of the Dunree Fort and Military Museum. Last year thousands of visitors flocked to see the amazing dancing lights.

Adam Rory Porter, a veteran of Northern Lights pictures, said it was great to see the display return.

“We are so honoured to be able to see this spectacular natural happening.

“They were gone for a while but they are back and it’s great to be able to let people know they are here.

“Everyone should see them at least once in their life. They’re breathtaking.”
