Garda want to speak to drivers that overtook bus prior to fatal collision

Stacey Masterson, 16, of Kilmartin Green, Tallaght, was a front-seat passenger in the BMW that collided with a Dublin Bus double-decker at around 5pm on Sunday. She died at the scene. The 19-year-old driver of the car remained in serious condition in Tallaght hospital yesterday.

The driver of the bus and one of his seven passengers suffered minor injuries and the driver was released from hospital on the same evening.

Gardaí said they want to speak to the drivers of two cars. They said the vehicles, which were possibly silver, overtook the bus, the number 27, running from Clare Hall to Jobstown, when it was at a stop on the hill.

They asked any witnesses to contact Crumlin Garda Station on 01 6666 200, the garda confidential telephone line on 1800 666 111 or any garda station.

Dublin Bus has said it is carrying out its own investigation into the collision, as part of which it will review onboard CCTV footage. It has also said it will fully comply with the garda probe and supply the footage to investigating officers if requested.

Meanwhile, a man in his early 20s who died in a two-car crash in Co Cavan yesterday has been named locally as Patrick (Paddy) Kiernan, from Leitrim, Baileboro, Co Cavan.

He was the driver of one of the cars and was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the other car and his passenger, both male, are said to be in a serious condition in Cavan General Hospital.
