The 26-year-old Lithuanian man charged with the murder of a mother and her daughter in Killorglin, Co Kerry, last month appeared at Cork District Court yesterday by video link from prison.

Aurimas Andruska was not required to speak except to indicate that he could see and hear the court during the video link hearing.

Mr Andruska is charged with the murder of Jolanta Lubiene, aged 27, and her eight-year-old daughter, Enrika.

The Lithuanian-born mother and daughter were found stabbed to death when gardaí called to their rented house at Langford Downs in Killorglin, Co Kerry, on Jun 16.

Mr Andruska, with an address at Ardmoniel Heights, Killorglin, is accused of murdering the mother and daughter at their home on Jun 15.

Mr Andruska was first charged with the murders on Jun 28 and has since made a further two court appearances in Co Kerry in connection with the killings.

On the accused’s last court appearance at Tralee District Court, Supt Jim O’Connor applied to have him appear at Cork District Court yesterday via video link from Cork Prison.

Defence solicitor Adrian Hegarty appeared on free legal aid yesterday.

On the application of Insp Pat Meaney, Judge Leo Malone remanded the accused in custody until Jul 31 to allow time for preparation and service of a book of evidence.
