Fianna Fáil ‘trying to rewrite history’ over claim of bank trap

Fianna Fáil was accused of trying to “rewrite history” after it claimed that Anglo “set a trap” to lure the previous administration into bailing out the bank.

The party who introduced the bank guarantee that put the taxpayer on the hook for Anglo’s losses, said the release of recordings between two of its officials shows the government at the time was misled.

But Fine Gael said Fianna Fáil was using the tapes to “wash its hands” of any responsibility for the lack of regulation and oversight of the financial system.
