The first major changes to college entry systems remain on course to be in place for students who have just completed their Junior Certificate, according to information from Education Minister Ruairi Quinn.

With most of this year’s students preparing to start transition year, it will be this group who enter fifth year in Sept 2014 that should see the first of the changes being implemented.

The planned reform of the points system, which has been blamed for distortion of second-level education and for inadequate preparation of students for third level, has been under discussion since a joint conference of key figures from both sectors in Sept 2011.
