Boundary changes may hit council management

Fears have been expressed that senior county council management may be withdrawn from West Cork as a result of boundary changes and local government reform.

The changes mean the number of county councillors elected in West Cork’s two electoral areas — Skibbereen and Bantry — in 2014 will be reduced from 12 to eight.

In addition, the regional will also lose 27 further public representatives with the abolition of town councils in Clonakilty, Skibbereen and Bantry.
