A 3-year-old child who tripped and hit her head in a Giraffe Childcare creche has settled her action for damages for €51,500.

Lauren Torpey suffered a deep laceration to her forehead when she tripped and hit her head on the edge of a sharp skirting board which was protruding from a wall at a 90-degree angle.

Lauren, through her mother Tara Lillywhite, of Frankfort Avenue, Rathgar, Dublin 6, had brought a claim against Giraffe Childcare Ltd trading as Giraffe Childcare Early Learning arising out of an incident on Jun 2, 2011.

The child was in the care of the defendant’s facility at the Namibia Room of Giraffe Childcare, Harcourt Rd, Iveagh Court, Charlemont St, the accident happened. She tripped and fell, hitting her head.

She suffered a deep cut to her forehead and was brought to Temple Street Children’s Hospital.

Mr Justice Michael Peart said in the High Court yesterday he was satisfied to approve the assessment made by the Personal Injuries Assessment Board of €51,500 in favour of Lauren.
