Gardaí had to use pepper spray and handcuffs to restrain a Cork auctioneer who turned violent at a Limerick auction after he failed to secure a number of items he had bid for.

Shane O’Neill was eventually subdued by two gardaí with the help of an off-duty superintendent. After being brought to Roxboro station, he spat at another garda.

At Limerick District Court yesterday, O’Neill, aged 41, of Shancastle, Kilmichael, Macroom, Co Cork, admitted to a public order offence of obstructing a garda in the course of his duty.
