Just 17% of Irish people plan to holiday at home this summer, as holidaymakers continue to put their money towards a sun holiday.

The KBC study found some 60% of Irish people will take a holiday this summer, with an average of €1,000 being spent by each holidaymaker. One in three plan a sun holiday.

In January, traditionally one of the most popular booking months, travel agents reported booking increases of up to 90% on last year, with many noting a rise of 20% to 25%.
