Vulnerable face welfare cut to pay tax

Blind pensioners, widows, and people on disability allowances will be among those who will have social welfare payments reduced to pay their property tax.

Revenue has confirmed a range of vulnerable welfare claimant groups who face having amounts deducted directly from their weekly payments to foot the levy.

The welfare claimants have the option of deferring payments if they cannot afford them but then face the prospect of paying interest on the amounts.
