A Clare woman is to undertake 10 triathlons in 10 days to raise money for the Cork-based Hope Foundation, which helps street and slum children in Kolkata, India.

Alison to run 10 triathlons in 10 days

Alison Reidy, who is from Shannon, will complete a 750m swim, a 20km cycle, and a 5km run every day for nine days before a double- the-distances 10th effort, a race aptly titled Hell of the West.

The first nine triathlons will take place from the Shannon Swimming and Leisure Centre, beginning on Jun 20, with the finale in Kilkee. Hundreds of fellow triathletes are due to provide support in the last leg.

Alison felt it was appropriate she should test herself.

“I take part in a lot of triathlons and races throughout the year, so doing just one event wasn’t much of a challenge for me.

“As someone who keeps fairly fit all the time I felt I had to do something out of the ordinary and I wanted to do something that made me feel like I really earned the money I’d raised.”

Alison will travel to Kolkata in October to help paint some of Hope’s creches and protection homes.
