They may be familiar with Gray’s Anatomy but not so much with the effects of stress and burn-out — unless they went through medical school at University College Cork (UCC) where the latest batch of graduates have a new coping tool in their arsenal.

The 148 students who graduated from UCC yesterday are the first medical graduates in the country to have been exposed to a cognitive behavioural coaching programme called SAFEMED, designed to protect emotional health and wellbeing.

The students are also first in the country to be presented with the SAFEMED handbook as they graduate.
