Gardaí investigate claim off-duty officer was involved in sex attack

The garda, named by the alleged victim to investigating gardaí, has been suspended and a number of people have been interviewed as part of the Garda probe into the allegations.

It is claimed a woman went to a house in Lucan last Saturday night with another man and had consensual sex with him.

It is claimed that during the night she awoke to discover five naked men in the room with her, including an off-duty garda.

She alleges she was raped by the garda and that another man committed a serious sexual assault on her.

Gardaí in Lucan are now investigating the allegations and the garda is currently suspended.

He is understood to be based in a station in the north-east of the country.

It is believed he was named as taking part in the alleged incident by the woman. She was also medically examined at the weekend and the results of that review are likely to play a role in the continuing investigation.

Yesterday the Garda Press Office said a number of people had been interviewed as part of the probe but could not confirm if the garda has already been questioned.

A file will be prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) who will ultimately decide on whether or not to bring a prosecution. Gardaí could also utilise the sexual assault unit in Dublin’s Harcourt Square station.

It is understood the Garda Síochána Ombudsman Commission (GSOC) are not involved as it is an active Garda investigation.
