A major mover behind the Tipperary International Peace Prize has been honoured by his “own people” with a Person of the Year award.

Tireless volunteer named Tipperary person of the year

Martin Quinn was this week named as the Tipperary Association in Dublin’s Person of the Year for 2012 following decades of involvement in local, community and sporting groups.

Mr Quinn is chairman of the Canon Hayes Recreation Centre in Tipperary town as well as honorary secretary of the peace foundation. He is a past president of Muintir na Tíre. He is also a former officer of the west county GAA board, a past referee, presenter with Tipperary Mid-West Radio and an official with the Special Olympics movement and several other charities.
