Eastern European gangs use foil bags to bypass scanners

Eastern European gangs are using specially made foil bags which bypass retail security scanners in smash-and-grab raids.

Detectives say the gangs work day and night in intense crime sprees for a couple of weeks before heading home with the stolen goods.

Gardaí yesterday put on display a sample of items they recovered from one gang, including shampoo, jewellery, clothes, and mobile phones.
